Virtually every master planned community has one or more tennis court facilities for

the residents. Since there are hundreds of Master Planned Communities in the Valley,

there is no shortage of tennis to be played in the Valley of the Sun!
Bright, sunny days and crisp, clear air are the natural setting for a set or two of tennis. There are courts galore throughout the metropolitan areas including many top-notch public courts. You'll find courts to match your budget and skill level. Scottsdale has more than 200 public tennis courts and Phoenix boasts an additional 350 public courts. The climate favors hard surface courts.
Superstars regularly swing into action with major national junior, senior, and pro tournaments each season as well as frequent charitable exhibitions by pro players.

The annual professional men's tennis tournament in March has been renamed the Arizona Men's Tennis Classic. Held at the Scottsdale Princess Resort and was broadcast live to 70 million households internationally, this time of year is one sure to entice out-of-towners. For those who don't care about the scenery but just want to see some great tennis, the tournament is a winner. The tournament attracted crowds of more than 60,000 last year

Four Sun Devils Earn Pac-10 All-Academic Honors,Rankin selected to first-team, Pooler on second

Four Sun Devils were selected to the 2006 Pac-10 All-Academic teams, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. Junior Rebecca Rankin earned first-team All-Academic honors while Kady Pooler was named to the second team. Jessica Leitch and Wendy Pilecka also received honorable mention for the Sun Devils.

In Coach McInerney's tenure at ASU, the Sun Devils have now earned 41 Conference All-Academic Honors. This was the second career selection for both Rankin and Pooler and the first selection for Pilecka and Leitch. To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.

Rankin, a kinesiology major from Purley, England, earned a 3.81 GPA, highest on the team, and started in the fourth flight for the Sun Devils. She joined Roxanne Clarke this season as one of only four Sun Devils to join the 20-20 club, racking up both 20 singles and 20 doubles victories in the same season. Pooler, a Management/Marketing major from Laguna Niguel, Calif., earned a 3.28 GPA. Pooler will compete with doubles partner Clarke in the NCAA Doubles championship tournament this weekend.
