The Scottsdale All-Arabian Horse Show continues to be a galloping success. The February 2006 event was the 51st annual showcase for the Arabian horses. The Horse Show brings in excess of $33 million to the local economy during its ten-day stint. Among of the show's many benefits are the fact that not only are the Arabian Scottsdale Arabians & Their HistoryEvery size trailer in this annual migration, delivers
2,000 of the world's most beautiful Arabian horses to WestWorld for the 10-day
extravaganza. The magnificent, versatile, user-friendly animals and their owners will gather from around the world to compete for over $500,000 in prize monies. And do these horses live in style! Spectators are urged to check out the barns
where owners decorate their horses' homes-away-from-home in beautiful flowers,
flowing drapes, elegant fountains and elaborate signs. Equus Agilis, one of the four original species of
horse, has been identified in modern times as the Arabian. While other breeds
disappeared or were crossed with other breeds, the Arabian horse remains essentially
the same, and the Arabian is the genetic predecessor of every light horse breed
in existence today. Among them are the Quarter Horse with its speed and agility,
the Saddlebred and animated high stepping, and the Thoroughbred or Anglo-Arabian,
which is used for racing, hunting, humping and dressage. The Arabians came to North America with the 1893 Chicago
World's Fair, where Bedouins exhibited 29 horses. It was not until the 1040s
that Arabian horses gained widespread popularity through horse shows and gained
notoriety as the most versatile horse in the world. Described as living art,
the Arabian horse is known for its elegant features. Its dished head, large
eyes, arched neck and high tail carriage are beautiful to behold, functional
for a horse born to the harshest of deserts. "Earning their alias 'Drinkers of the Wind,' Arabians have distinctive large, flaring nostrils enabling them to capture more air when running. This makes the Arabian an unbeatable endurance horse," says Ed Grandon, past president of the Arabian Horse Association of Arizona. Do not be surprised to bump shoulders with a face you recognize from the big screen or concert stage. Chances are, it is who you think it is. A Scottsdale tradition since 1955, the prestigious Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show is also a highly successful fundraiser put on by the Arabian Horse Assn. of Arizona.
