The 63,400-seat home of the Arizona Cardinals - University of Phoenix Stadium - made its debut in 2006 and has received worldwide acclaim for its world-class architecture, cutting-edge technologies and first-rate fan comfort. The retractable field which is about 3 feet deep, weighs 17 million pounds and will move on 13 rails embedded in the floor. The architect Eisenman's use of the Native-American mandala symbol, a circle representing wholeness, the universe or infinity, which appears in Navajo sand paintings, native rock paintings, and depicted in ancient ball fields. An off-center mandala is embedded in the fabric of the retractable roof, with rays extending out to the spines of the building.Inspired by a barrel cactus, the silver-skinned structure has 21 "spines," or openings with floor-to-roof glass, to give the stadium an open, airy feeling. University Of Phoenix Stadium Named Top NFL Stadium Street & Smith's Sportsbusiness Journal and Sportsbusiness Daily have presented the results from their second annual SBJ/SBD Readers Survey on the state of the sports industry and University of Phoenix Stadium was named the top stadium in the NFL.
